The man is a moron. The voters that elected him are morons. The Nobel committee are morons. We, the American people, do not deserve the shaming he will bring upon us.
You must understand the mindset: Obama is an Affirmative Action college grad and Affirmative Action college professor. Under the conditions of his lifestyle, The Affirmative Action Nobel prizes will be awarded to those who probably did not do anything but in a sense of fairness as he is really not capable or qualified to do much of anything. Such awards reduce the potential for hurt feelings and make every one feel included.
President Obama does not deserve an award for something he hasn’t done.
He got the award on the sole basis that he isn’t a Republican. He had nothing to do with the US withdrawal from Iraq. The Iraqies dictated the withdrawal with President Bush Nearly a year before President Obama was elected.
His getting the Award was simply a PR stunt.
Sorry folks. This is not funny weird or right. This is sick and WRONG.
President Obummer (like Bush) is a war president. He has started/maintained THREE US lead wars/invasions and counting…(IRAN’s next.) His beliefs and strategies continue to KILL innocent children and other civilians via drone attacks in these far-away lands almost daily. And let’s not forget our own kids! Yet this peace prize winner is poised to send10,000 more sons and daughters to Afghanistan???
Gee, shouldn’t there be a cap on the number of wars a “Peace” Prize winner can be actively involved in before he
/she is disqualified?(Kissinger’s tally was 2(?) when he won)
Or maybe in his honor re-name it the HAPPINESS IS A WARM PIECE PRIZE:)

Barry found a Nobel Peace Prize in a box of Cracker Jack. It should be noted that Irina Sendler, a Polish woman who risked her life to save 2500 Jews from Nazis, was passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize in favor of Albert Gore and his self-serving, self-enriching global warming fraud. That says everything we need to know about the character, ethics, and judgment of the Nobel committee.

Going back to the core question, and away from all the idiotic soundbites on both sides:
Is Obama’s winning the Nobel Prize Peace weird, funny or just plain right!?
Obama winning the prize was weird, and inappropriate — and so are many of the responses to the win. The critics here are slamming Obama. The people who made this ill-advised decision are the Norwegian Nobel Committee, and all-party committee of the Norwegian Parliament. They got caught up in the hype and made an award that cheapened the prize itself and did the recipient no favors. I felt embarrassed for Obama. He knows as well as anyone that good intentions aren’t enough for this prize.
What this award does tell us, though, is a very little bit about the way the rest of the western world came to see the United States during the Bush years. Never before had the United States engaged in “pre-emptive war” — indeed Europe still wonders why it took 2 extra years to convince the U.S. to join the fight for liberty in both World Wars. The Nobel prize, in Obama’s case, is clearly inappropriate, but it is a reflection of a sigh of relief the era of Bush unilateralism had come to end. A breath of fresh air, however, does not equal of peace prize. Obama himself recognized that he did not fir in the crowd of previous laureates, that include world renowned scientists, political, religious and other world leaders who have risked their lives and careers in the pursuit of peace. That’s the Nobel Committee’s fault, not Obama’s.
Now, there is some talk that he should have refused the award. I think he took the right course in acknowledging the award (in his case) spoke of future expectation and (importantly) of the overall American spirit and he is accepting in that vein. There has only been one case of refusal of a Nobel Peace Prize: Le Duc Tho of North Vietnam. I doubt any American would want their president, of whatever persuasion, to join that company! As for getting Congressional approval to accept, there is precedent. Both Theodore Roosevelt, a Republican, and Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat, have previously won the award while in office. I am sure Obama will follow whatever protocol has been set by his predecessors.
The Nobel committee did Obama, nor the United States, no favors by awarding a prize a brand-new president that he has done anything to achieve. It is the Nobel committee’s mistake, not Obama’s, but the award is instructive of how far the United States wavered from how we were generally perceived around the world, during the Bush years, and how just a changing of the guard was seen as a relief elsewhere.
As for Obama being a war president, I cannot recall a single instance when any armed conflict of the United States magically ended with the inauguration of a new president. These things take time to wind down. As former Secretary of State Colin Powell said prior to the Iraq invasion, “If you (America) break it (Iraq), you buy it.” We cannot simply walk away, even if we want to, without securing a degree of stabilization. Beyond that, both the U.S. and Iraq are desirous of U.S. involvement to end. Afghanistan is a complicated ball of wax that received less attention than it should when it was eclipsed by Iraq. It is important to remember that any outside power has had great difficulty in this anarchic, tribal land. There are powerful arguments for staying, and powerful arguments for getting out. So far, I think the president is wise taking his time to weigh his options because the consequences of either choice are going to be heavy. Taking the time to make a decision (so far) is not the same in indecision, and better than making a haphazard decision.
But the question was about Nobel. It was weird.
Obama is the sheep in wolfs clothing….
Look at the facts…Jeremy Wright preached anti-america proproganda at his church for 20 years that Obama went to..
Jeremy Wright talked negatively about whites…
Look at youtube on Jeremy Wright….
Obama’s kids Godparent is Jeremy Wright….
Your look at the devil right in front of you…Beware!
I’ll answer Serious Observer as his/her answer made sense. I agree with your general view on this but would like to add a couple of thoughts of my own.
“…that cheapened the prize itself …”: Too late, they already gave it to Kissinger and Arafat.
“….. indeed Europe still wonders why it took 2 extra years to convince the U.S. to join the fight for liberty in both World Wars”: Europe for the most part didn’t particularly mind that Hitler took Poland and so they only went to war when it became abundantly clear that he wasn’t planning on stopping. The US got into war with Japan when it was attacked, and never entered into war with Germany at all, it was Germany who declared war with the US (not something they teach in school?!). Thus the term ‘fight for liberty’ doesn’t really reflect the facts.
“…We cannot simply walk away, even if we want to, without securing a degree of stabilization….”: As Noam Chomsky correctly points out; invaders have no rights. The Iraqis want the US out, so they should leave. Paying reparations for the bloody mess (literally) it’s caused should help in restoring order.
Oh, and in case it wasn’t abundantly clear already I think not only giving the prize to Obama, but the price itself, is a joke.
First things first, BHO has not even proven that he is an American citizen, thus he is not the president, so what ever awards he gets, deserved or not, are moot…
Wilhelm Sanders brings up some interesting points. The Nobel Peace Prize is highly subjective and blurs just what the prize is supposed to mean. here have been many recipients who have won just because they are good people, seen to be doing good things that do not directly relate to the cause of peace, per se (Mother Theresa, The Dalai Lama, Dr.Norman Borlaug). All of them are inspirational, but all also had a considerable body of work, experience and advocacy behind them before winning. Kissinger is interesting in terms of the context of the times, when the world was fiercely exhausted by the Vietnam war and Kissinger was seen as a tireless super-diplomat. His complicity in compounding the very problems he was seen as trying to solve, was not generally known until many years later. Arafat was a terrorist (as was Menachem Begin in his day) and horribly corrupt, but in terms of the Peace Prize, Arafat’s award, like those given to Begin and Anwar Sadat, and to Arafat’s co-laureates Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres, to Lech Walesa or Mikhail Gorbachev and to South Africa’s F.W. deKlerk and Nelson Mandela, reflects partnerships that held the promise of creating more peaceful outcomes at considerable personal and political risks in attempting or achieving peaceful change. Nobel awards process and promise as well as results.
To the original point, Obama has had to real chance to achieve, or even attempt to achieve, anything of peace-making substance yet. A degree even beyond other questionable choices, but not Obama;s fault.
The outset of World War II, as recounted by Sanders, further illustrates my point (although it was Hitler’s move into Czechoslovakia that western Europe turned a blind eye to). Britain and France toyed with late diplomatic efforts to try to avert all-out war with Germany over Poland, including promising to consider an attack on Poland as an attack on themselves. Poland was the tripping point that brought both Britain and France into the war. Both countries declared war on Germany in response to the German invasion of Poland. Hardly turning a blind eye.
As Sanders points out, the United States witness the decade of increased belligerence from both Japan and Germany but did not become directly involved, until such time as each country exercised acts or declarations of war against the United States. The U.S. did not take direct military steps to “pre-empt” even the most dangerous regimes of its time, until attacked. Post-war, it chose to “contain” rather than confront powerful Communist regimes that also posed severe threats. One tool to do this was strategic alliances, providing strength in numbers and assurances of support. In this regard, “war” actions in Korea, Vietnam and Grenada were, in some degree or another, reactions to pleas for help from embattled allies.
The Bush actions in regard to Afghanistan, then ruled by the Taliban, which harbored the Al-Qaeda terrorist network which directly attacked the U.S. in 2001, did not raise alarm among allies, but the “pre-emptive” invasion of Iraq, based on dubious or disproved evidence, did change the notion of how the U.S. overtly applied its power in the world.
There are many despots and dangerous regimes around the world, but the U.S. had never before overtly jumped in to change the regime and occupy the country, in the absence of an immediate crisis, in the same manner as Iraq. This made the U.S. severely unpopular in parts of the world, such as Europe, where diplomacy received more value than the Bush administration accorded it. Obama’s change in tone from the what Europeans considered to be the alarming Bush approach, seems to be the sole basis for Obama’s nomination for the award.
In contrast to Sanders, Scott Chester follows with a comment of no merit whatsoever. The President was born in the state of Hawaii on August 4, 1961, as certified by the State of Hawaii and announced in two local newspapers days after the birth. The official birth certificate — the same that you or I would receive if we had been born in Hawaii — has been widely circulated and has been physically examined by media and other experts and certified as authentic. Every question about Obama’s birth has been examined and explained at length by competent authorities, quite in contrast to the rather embarrassing quacks that perpetuate the myths. Perhaps they are confusing with other candidates whose natural born citizenship have also been questioned: Barry Goldwater, George Romney and John McCain, all of whom were born outside the territorial limits of the United States but were nonetheless recognized as natural-born American citizens, permitted to run for and, potentially serve as, president.
I think the award was just right. President Obama certainly qualifies for this award for all the reasons that it is given. Shane on those who fail to acknowledge the historical reasons this has been given. God Bless America!
the perfect choice. he’s admired around the world and is repairing our image. ending america’s status as the world’s biggest bully is a great step toward peace.
He’s not my president. I’m no American – I merely live here. I see only fools praising a more resourceful fool. In that case I suppose it is “funny”.
In before confusion.
He is NOT MY President, The USA President does NOT run the country by the way. The HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES does. “WE the people” ….George Washington & his patriots set the USA up that way.
O’bama did NOTHING to EARN the Nobel Peace prize. WHAT PEACE? WHERE? SHOW ME PEACE IN THIS WORLD.
what you fail to realize is that the Nobel was given to Obama – not to this country. I belive the Commmittee sees Obama in a much bigger role in international politics. You need to remember this is an international prize!!
The President Obama deserves all the best awards in this complex world, this man is so compassionate to others, caring, and he’s trying his very best to improve the lives of so many needy Americans and above all he governs with utmost civility avec elegance.PERIOD.Inspiring the whole world with his words and good manners, the republicans has a lot to learn from him…
We adore our President Bam and may God bless him and his gorgeous family more each day.
From all of us Americans here in Monaco.
The President of the US is simply a vaporous illusion of a leader. Read his pontifical pronouncments & you will realize that they are boilerplate shtick out of a “how to say it” handbook . This is going to be a painful period for my beloved country. The President was nurtured in Chicago corrupt politics and operated with the street gang culture of power, intimidation, and bribery. To this day, this paragon of virtue lets his half-brothers rot while he hightails it in Air Force One. That’s all you have to know about our POTUS.
Most of his communications are derived from boilerplate schtick out of a how to say it manuel and pasted together by overpaid and undereducated hacks. They don’t hav
The level of discourse here is truly sad. The idiots who say “he isn’t my president” are not patriots. Shame on all of you. You were probably calling for tar and feathers when the libs said that about President Bush. We could all stand to turn it down a few degrees.
Weird, Funny or Right?
Weird is the way Lady Gaga chooses her clothing.
Funny you call a guy like George Carlin – may he rest in peace! (Even though the atoms he used to be made of don’t give a rat’s ass about it).
Right is when you shoot whoever attacks you, your family, and your country.
NONE cane be used to describe the Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Maybe a new Nobel Prize should be instituted like the Stupidity Prize, although too many contenders
in this world would be up for nomination and finally finding the most stupid one would take simply too long.
I can not believe that a person president for only 8 days could or should get the nobel prize for paece, condsidering he became president only because he is of mixed color, and a street thug, if he were not black(?) he would still be hustling votes and hate messages around his favorite pastor, not being sorry for being an AMERICAN!!
What most people fail to consider is the massive change of direction of the United States Foreign Policy compared to the attack first, justify later, gut based decision making process of the prior administration. The past months spent by the President working out how to successfully wind the Afghanistan war down, defeat the radical Muslims.build up the shaky Afghanistan government, instill the peoples confidence in that government, deal with the issues of Pakistan weak government, and the massive influence of the radicals in that government and engagement with other nations, Some, myself included, might consider it a bit premature, but compared to the last 8 years of Bush Foreign policy, and the new, and much needed change in approach to the rest of the world, it is deserved. Under Bush, the influence and diplomatic power of the United States was diminished, leaving only raw military power as a tool to influence other nations decisions. Unfortunately, because of the past 8 years economic polices, the economy of the United States cannot financially support the Bush Doctrine of using raw military power as a means of influencing other nations. Obama has taken the steps to involve other nations through dialog, and diplomacy, not simply bullying.
Obviously, military power is one component of diplomacy, and international relations, but it is not the only one.
Mahatma Gandhi was reject when nominated, not once but five times (1937, 1938, 1939, 1947 and 1948).
Obama, Jimmy Carter and Arafat were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in their very first nominations. Does this award have any credibility? It is as politically motivated as any award given by an autocratic Communist Regime.
If they could give Arafat the award, I am surprised they missed Hitler and Pol Pot.
well in my humble point of view,as a moroccan citizen,i think no one worth this prize in the united states for at least one hundred years, why?well simply coz all the crises that gave birth in the whole world, the cause behind them was the AMERICAN stupid presidents, starting from world war 2,and ending with the faschist BUSH,well we hope that barrack hussein obama will heal these wounds that were caused by his predecessors.salam
Mohammed Lazrak -
The American presidents are responsible for World War II? I guess we must be using different history textbooks.
Nominations for the prize closed on February 1, at which time he had been in office for 12 days.
He won the nobel prize for not being George Bush. He also won the Heisman Trophy, the Stanley Cup, an Academy Award, rode the winning horse in the Kentucky Derby and was named “Country Music Entertainer of the Year”.
Weird – a little overdone
Funny – doesn’t capture the moment
Right – ?
I propose ‘absurd’
FYI – This is being written the week after the little adventure in Detroit – do you all feel safer now?
The Nobel Peace Prize has now lost it’s meaning. This was tremendously wierd.
The Nobel peace prize was always political. Europe has been post christian for a century and Copenhagen’s peace prize is usually awarded to leftist liberals who also have abandoned the foundation of Judeo-Christian morality. Yasser Arafat was awarded the prize. He led a double life, lying publicly to the west while boasting of victory over infidels to his constituent arabs. Obama is incognito. His academic and voting record proves he is another leftist liberal without moral conviction. He is required by the Koran to bow to arab royalty which he did. Youtube videoclips prove he is muslim which he will not admit publicly for fear of not being able to be reeelceted, which he won’t anyway. His mandate is to destroy the status quo which includes the rich Jewish contingency that financed half of his campaign. 2010 elections will tell the story. If he is truly a peace LEADER his party(democrats) will do well. If not they will be humiliated. The people of Massachuesetts(a blue state) were angry with his administration’s agenda and his constituent’s corruption in their home state. His party leaders bribed their members to assume more power than they deserved. The Nobel Peace judges should get an American Dunce Award for making Obama a welfare icon. Islam is the new Third Reich and Obama is doing his part to accomadate it. We call him an appeaser to tyranny. Copenhagen calls him a champion of peace. Jesus said they will say Peace,Peace, but then sudden destruction will come upon them. Repent is another word for change. Jesus had the real change you can believe in. Obama is a counterfeit. He knows it but intentionally deceives anyway. He is a criminal because it is illegal for a federal official to meet with foreign dignitaries without a public announcement. His cronies at the federal reserve are taking the coup of America to the next level. But it is possible that America will be at war with China before Obama leaves office and the Chinese empire could stretch to the steps of Copenhagen. This may sound ridiculous but I have sources and the globalists won’t deny it. Read Psalms chapter 2 in the bible and you will see what lies in store for Obama and his globalists.
Anybody who feels he is the right person to be leading one of the most powerful nations is a moron as stated by another. THIS GUY IS THE BIGGEST FAKE AND THE PEOPLE WHO VOTED FOR HIM NEED TO PAY FOR THE MESS AND DEPT HE IS LEAVING BEHIND. If any of us are left at the end of his destruction run.
Even god cannot clean this mess up.
Looks like Tom likes the new president, He most also make less then $15,000 a year.
Tom must also love paying 37 percent or more in federal taxes that this new president is shoving down
our throats. Maybe Tom would like to pay all of our taxes sonce he thinks this president is so good
for America.
Get a real grip Tom.
President Obama did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. He is a war President. The Prize should have been awarded to George Galloway. He is a fighter for Peace.
ILLEGAL, in fact the U.S. Code is specific …. He cannot receive it nor could he legally administer it to others because he is a Federal Employee just like the others whom would or might could obtain the same furor recognized benefit and since if he did he would have to turn it over to Congress and could only retain $100 maximum of it. Congress would have to vote on him having anything to do with its administrating of it or receipt of it and that is the law which is now violated. I would not hesitate to sue Obama and the Congress for violating the U.S. Code. It was irresponsible of Obama to take advantage of another foreign Foundation entity as a American Political Leader. Had he ever needed a political handout for something they designate as his achievement being the only one to speak out to make a difference I would hate to see how the many dead military had their voice trampled on by Barack Obama acceptance speech and further curtailment of the war that could have ended simply by nailing those responsible for the continued deaths in Iraq, Afghanistan, Palestine, Israel, Pakistan, and Iran. Obama stepped aside from the Christian Leadership acknowledging to be a Muslim and that proved to the many that voted for his political agenda that he technically lied to them on purpose and that isolates him from any Nobel Prize in the world at large that has more honorable people that could accept such honor. So Obama is a thief of the peoples right to serve their Independence the way it is intended without Federal Control of their Insurance or their doctors or their hospitals. States are responsible for what occurs regarding the health and well being of all the residents, Obamacare is a trick out of a sleeve to misguide that process recognized by the computing staff which has priority over all the people within a state, it has been that way and should stay that way which does nothing to change what Medicaid and Medicare are having problems with their funding and charges for services and medical equipment. Business which sprung up after Medicare & Medicaid began have taken advantage of government money since the programs began and many are existing on minor manufacturing of which has declared bankruptcy leaving those businesses with payments to lawyers and attorneys defending the rights of the bankrupt concerns thus paying still into toxic assets that don’t have a receiver. Nothing has a consequence, it is a Nightmare to realize how wrong Obama is for America, truth failed to solve this financial mess and Obama carries over the lie it contained to sue all American’s even if they are disabled and have no means of self support so how then is that legal to demand they now have to pay for Insurance they don’t even need to be asked to have and with what money I might ask is it the fact that Obama gave money to banks so that those people can simply get a loan easier each year for Insurance? Obama is either stupid or a plum ignorant or simply a selfish man that I don’t want America associated with.
Why should it be funny?
How Could anyone think it is right, Wake-up America.
If your not reading the Holy Bible then I suggest you to read the U.S. Code maybe also The U.S. Constitution, that might help you Wake-up America. What I have reserves against a thief named Obama is made especially for Consumer’s and Obama takes that as Anti-Protectionism in his demand to control Consumer’s lives and financial concerns. Energy will increase in cost because Obama lacks Leadership that is Strong and Honest. Union Leadership is WEAK, it Steals from Disabled People demanding cheaper Insurance for themselves & nothing but nothing in Obamacare is going to provide Disabled People a penny of support when they are demanded to pay a annual Insurance Fee. State Medicaid has had provisions for the Disabled for years now Obama threatens Disabled People with the backing and support of Unions. How is that so FUNNY, why do you think that could be RIGHT? Taking it from a worthless Radical Individual that needed to have a babies Pacifier in his mouth since that day began instead of a wasteful Senatorial Life, a wife and two children and a future pension with retirement which honest people not a friend of William Ayers that should not even have a Professor job at all in a University. At least the State of Illinois will not be paying him a Pension or retirement but that will cost all of America you know.
Wow, aren’t we being so denying of Independence honoring such people and their past? That Muslim we knew as Barry Soetoro. Obama was suppose to be a Christian, so now its OK with everyone he is still a Muslim.
Louis Farrakhan, Reverand Jeremiah Wright, Father Pfleger, Chicago ACORN, William Ayers, Rahm Emanuel, the Marxist Chicago Democratic Socialists, Ex-Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, Van Jones and others.
U.S. Code Title 5 Part III Subpart F Chapter 73 Subchapter IV; and this U.S. Constitution matter Article I, Section 9. $1.4 million is more than $100.00 or when did he learn to count money? I call it Extortion of the poor and disabled, is there much difference? Gays and Gay marriage cannot create life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness from two individuals of another individuals’ birth, also exempt from abortion standards. What is this saying about …. President Obama’s National Service Program, United We Serve [http://www.serve.gov/]?
Such news articles irritate me, makes me want to throw-up and I know I shouldn’t loose my food over such stupidity or money either. If you can give me 100x more money than what I already have would that change my mind at all, Absolutely Not. You can’t bribe me so that ends this ordeal. It does not end the Medicare or the Medicaid ordeal.
